The United States is currently at war against a frightening outbreak of repulsive blood sucking bedbugs. In a consumer report, reported by ABC News, Atlanta, GA now ranks 21st on a list of the top 50 bedbug infested cities in the United States—which really isn’t that bad considering Atlanta’s size. Cincinnati, Chicago, and Detroit round out the top three infested cities this year, according to the report.
Here is an informative graphic breaking down everything you need to know about the growing bedbug epidemic:
There were nearly no bedbugs inside the U.S. between the end of World War II and the 1990s. Today the bedbug numbers are completely blowing up. I remember when I was a kid my mother would whisper to me as she tucked me in “sleep tight and don’t let the bed bugs bite.” I never really knew what she meant because I had never seen a bedbug and didn’t know what they were. Today, CBS News reports that more than 250 million dollars a year is spent combating bedbugs.
As small as bed bugs are, their occurrence can hurt a city’s pride and image. Once bed bugs become ingrained in an area, the entire city is thinking about them. Anyone that has ever been bitten by these bugs, and end up breaking out with red welts all over their bodies, knows how very maddening they can be. The worst part is that they can be incredibly challenging to get rid of without the help of a pest control professional.
